Wonwill is a sling-wielding resident of Salamandastron and Sergeant in the Long Patrol who possesses expert boxing skills. His name is possibly derived from this talent, as "if his right paw didn't get you, his left one will", and he is close friends with Buckworthy. They remain at Redwall to help defend it with half of the army whilst the other half head out to find Gulo, and during this time he assists in capturing Fargil after knocking him unconscious in a duel. He lets the fox live but sends him crawling back to Zerig with the warning that if they do not surrender, the hares will kill them the next day. After being forced to knock out an injured Buckworthy (who wants to fight the vermin), he and Fortindom lead the attack but discover decoys and realize that a small band led by Freeta are sneaking inside the Abbey grounds. The group is spotted and attacked by a now-awake Buckworthy, who sacrifices his life and kills all the vermin in the process. Wonwill and Fortindom lay a trap for Zerig and his soldiers, who are all slain as a result, and he grieves heavily for his friend's death. After Gulo's defeat he returns to Salamandastron.
