Wakka - also known as Wakk - is the leader of the Gawtrybe who doesn't appear to be as "playful" as the others. He wields a small stone axe and confronts Martin's group when they attempt to cross Boldred's mountain, demanding that the young mouse give him his sword. When Martin refuses, the squirrel Chieftain challenges him to an unarmed duel but is defeated when his opponent grabs him in a hold. He is saved when Rose intervenes and begs Martin not to kill him. While his death is not specifically mentioned it is possible that the Gawtrybe kill him for his defeat, and he does not participate in the Battle of Marshank. Due to his cruel nature, Wakka is considered to be a "grey character".
