Viola is a young resident of Redwall and often jealous of Tansy. She can be a bit prudish at times and, while out in Mossflower one day with Durral, captured by Lask's lizards. The two are brought aboard Waveworm to be used as ransom for the Tears of all Oceans, and during the trip to Sampetra they are protected by Romsca who often fights off the vicious lizards. Durral helps her escape and she is taken back to Redwall by Jesat and Teno, however she runs away from them and hides on Freebeast so she can help rescue Durral. While journeying to the tropical island she matures greatly and participates in the final battle, and in adulthood she becomes Infirmary Keeper. She concocts a seaweed-and-cockleshell drink that she uses, and while she is slightly finicky she clearly cares for all her patients. She sometimes acts as deputy Abbess when Tansy is busy or absent.
