Vannan
Gender: female
Species: marlfox
Appears In: Marlfox
Vannan is a resident of Marlfox Island where she lives with her family. She is the daughter of Silth and sister of Ascrod, Gelltor, Lantur, Mokkan, Predak, and Ziral. With the exception of Lantur she travels to Mossflower with her siblings to steal beautiful objects for their greedy mother. Like them she has pale eyes, grey fur marked with black and dark blue, wears a brown-and-green cloak, and wields an axe. She usually works with Ascrod, and the two happen upon the Swifteye family in Mossflower. They attempt to attack the squirrels but Janglur fights back, resulting in her getting knocked unconscious and Ascrod being stung in the nose with a dart. Some time later she, Ascrod, and some water rat soldiers sneak into Redwall during the scuffle to save a kidnapped Dwopple where they succeed in knocking out the three young guards (Dann, Dippler, and Song respectively) and kill Nutwing before fleeing with Martin's stolen tapestry. After this Mokkan feigns injury so the suspicious Vannan has Beelu watch him, and when she returns to see how things are she discovers that Mokkan has betrayed them and left with the tapestry (murdering Beelu in the process). In his absence Gelltor becomes leader and Vannan participates in the numerous attempts to conquer Redwall, as the Marlfoxes are seeking revenge for Ziral's death which first ignites the war. She later takes over after Gelltor's death and, aware they need reinforcements, performs some simple tricks to convince a superstitious Raventail to join their cause. He gathers over one hundred fighters and the vermin try to climb up the Abbey walls but are forced to flee when they are discovered. Their next attempt involves cutting down a huge tree that will destroy the ancient wall once felled, however they are unaware the tree is home to many termite and bee colonies; Vannan is bitten so much by the former that her footpaws painfully swell up to an enormous size. The Marlfoxes eventually succeed in barging through the main gates and a battle ensues, and while speaking to her sister Vannan becomes the fifth of her brood to perish when she is killed by Skipper's thrown spear.
