Vallug
is a big member of the Juskarath clan who lives with them in northwest Mossflower and, along with Eefera, one of Sawney's most skilled fighters. He is known to be such an expert archer that it is said he can strike a dragonfly on its wing. He sports the tribe tattoos (a black stripe running down the muzzle with crimson dots on either side), considered to be intelligent, present when an infant Deyna/Tagg is kidnapped, and responsible for murdering Rillflag upon orders from Sawney. Fifteen seasons later he is one of eight to join Gruven on the pursuit of the otter who has deserted the tribe, however despite the stoat holding the loose title of Chieftain he and Eefera are looked at as the real leaders thanks to their experience. Upon realizing the others are not helping in any way, the two vermin leave to find Deyna/Tagg themselves as they wish to kill him so they can claim the Taggerung title; they strike an alliance even though Vallug secretly plots to slay Eefera afterwards so he alone has the title, unaware that the weasel is planning on doing the same thing. They eventually end up at Redwall where they believe the otter is hiding, so they capture two Dibbuns (Durby and Feegle) to use as hostages. He refuses to believe the Redwallers when they say they have no idea what a Taggerung is, and he woulds both Fwirl and Hoarg before snatching up Nimbalo when he spots Deyna/Tagg running into the Abbey. The infants are rescued before anything serious happens and the two vermin reunite with Dagrab, Gruven, and Rawback who are the three remaining tribe members. He threatens to fire off more arrows unless the woodlanders hand over the Taggerung and aims one at Cregga when she attempts to explain they still don't know what he is talking about. Deyna, who by now knows his true identity, bursts out from the main gates wielding Martin's sword. While Vallug is immediately decapitated by the ancient blade, he releases the arrow he had placed on his bow a second before being slain and it buries itself into Cregga's heart. This injury, coupled with her immense age, results in the badger's death not long after.
