Urtica - the Latin name for nettles - is a young resident of Peace Island where he lives with his family. He is the son of Bistort and Downyrose, and husband of Welfo. While gathering up some kelp with his father he finds a small ketch with Shogg, Triss, and Welfo aboard. The trio are near death but nursed back to health, and during this time he and Welfo fall in love.
