Tugga Bruster, Log a Log
Gender: male
Species: shrew
Appears In: Doomwyte
Tugga is the GUOSIM leader who wields a rapier and iron club, and lives with his tribe in Mossflower. He is the father of Dubble and, despite being regarded as a fearsome warrior in songs, is actually a cowardly bully who does not hesitate to put down others (especially his own son). As he is not well-liked even by his own tribe it is unknown how or why he becomes Chieftain, though it is possibly due to his brutish nature. Upon arriving at Redwall he refuses to allow his shrews to talk to the inhabitants until he learns if anybeast has seen a missing Dubble, and he is extremely rude towards the Abbey residents. Despite this he does receive some help from others while searching for his son and Bisky, but he quickly irritates Bosie to the point where the hare secretly wants to knock him out. The group is ambushed the Painted Ones but are saved by the timely arrival of the Gonfelin Thieves, who force the rats to surrender. Tugga, enraged over his son's kidnapping by the vermin, viciously beats a wounded Chigid. Rorgus attempts to stop him but the shrew Chieftain ignores both him and Chigid's pleas for mercy, cruelly killing the rat with his club and causing Chigid's widow Tala to swear revenge. The Redwallers are horrified at this and let him know it, and he angrily breaks Dwink's footpaw following another argument. He is swiftly knocked unconscious by a headbutt from Nokko, and some time later he attacks and hurts Aluco while stealing one of the Great Doomwyte Idol jewels in an attempt to frame Nokko for the crime. The plan is nearly successful until Rorgus discovers the emerald on the shrew's body, and Tugga tries to rally his tribe to no avail. The angry GUOSIM permanently banish him, he wounds Garul in the shoulder upon being told that he is no longer Log a Log, and he flees when the tribe chase after him. As he is running past the ditch just outside the main gates he is ambushed and stabbed in the heart by a waiting Tala, dying instantly. Dubble, so ashamed over his father's actions, gives up his birthright of being Chieftain and hands the title to Garul. Tugga is the only known Log a Log to be a "grey character".
