Toolam is an unintelligent soldier in the water rat army that serves the Marlfoxes and joins them on the trip to Mossflower to steal beautiful objects for a greedy Silth. Along with a dozen other rats he accompanies Mokkan south when the fox betrays his siblings. Upon returning to Marlfox Island he is named Captain of the Army, thus replacing Ullig, and attempts to lead a group when the slaves rebel. They are ambushed by a hiding Burble and Song who shove them down a ramp, and the rats are knocked unconscious.
