Tan Loc is a resident of an unknown place and oarslave aboard Blacksail, having been captured after Hookfin murders his entire family and resulting in the vole vowing revenge. He rarely speaks and saves Joseph after he is thrown into the sea by Gabool, living in the tunnels throughout Terramort and founding the TRAG. It is revealed that he only lives for one thing: to fulfill his promise of vengeance against Hookfin. During the final battle he waits just outside Bladegirt, and is waiting for Hookfin when the corsair attempts to desert. He is last seen sharpening a blade on a rock and telling Hookfin "I've been waiting for you". He presumably later moves to Redwall.
