Sword of Martin the Warrior
This legendary sword belongs to Martin the Warrior, though the first known wielder is his grandfather Martin the Elder Warrior. It is passed down to Luke, who then passes it to a young Martin before leaving to pursue Daskar. Initially it is nothing too special: a steel blade, red pommel stone, strapped in leather, and held in a scabbard. The weapon is stolen by Badrang after he captures Martin and Windred, and he wields it for a while until the former takes it back. Martin heads south to Mossflower where he is again captured, this time by Kotir soldiers, and brought before a dying Verdauga who orders he "cool his paws" in the castle prison cells. An angry Tsarmina, who wants the mouse slain, snaps the blade in half. Martin wears the hilt around his neck, vows to kill her, escapes with Gonff, and travels to Salamandastron where Boar forges him a new blade made from the metal of a fallen star Lupin discovers on the beach. This new blade has a silver crosspiece, red pommel stone, three-quarter blood channels on either side, restrapped with black leather, and is essentially indestructible. Martin wields it in his final battle against Tsarmina, takes it with him on the trip to the North Shores, and later hangs it up to live the rest of his seasons in peace. As per Luke's instructions if he does not have any children, he hides the sword where only a brave creature can locate it and asks Krar to place the weapon on the Abbey weathervane; he also leaves a riddle behind his tapestry in Great Hall. At one point it is moved to his tomb as, during the events of Mariel of Redwall, Martin guides Simeon to the chamber so he can take the sword and place it beside Dandin's bed. After the Battle of Terramort, Rufe places the sword back on the weathervane and it remains here until a lightning bolt breaks its holders and it falls right beside Samkim. It is stolen by Dingeye and Thura who panic after accidentally killing Hal, ends up in the paws of Dethbrush, very briefly recovered by Samkim who then loses it to the Deepcoiler, found by Mara, and brought back to the Abbey by Arula and Samkim. MacPhearsome places it on the weathervane and, at one point, it is stolen by Bloodfeather. Bull acquires it but, one day while showing off, loses the weapon to Asmodeus who immediately claims it for himself. The adder possesses the sword for many seasons until he is killed by Matthias with the ancient blade, and after Cluny's death a dying Mortimer asks for it to be called "Ratdeath". After this the sword is placed on two holders above Martin's tapestry picture where it stays until a creature must wield it. Despite behind thousands of seasons old, the blade has no nicks or scratches. It has been stolen numerous times, and is often the envy of many vermin who believe it to be magic, but always returned to its rightful place.
