Stonepaw is the ancient Lord of Salamandastron and, according to Russano, rules the mountain longer than any other. He is the descendant of Sable Brock, father of Brocktree, grandfather of Boar, great-grandfather of Bella, great-grandfather-in-law of Barkstripe, great-great-grandfather of Sunflash, and great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of Rawnblade. Despite his age he is still quite powerful, and towards the end of his rule his home is attacked by Trunn's horde. As his hares (known as Stonepaw's Stalwarts) are also well into their seasons, he hides them in the mountain's underground passages and catacombs but they are eventually found by Groddil. He orders Stiffener to take the others to safety so that he can stay behind and fight the vermin soldiers, slaying many in a Bloodwrath-afflicted rage before they trap him in a large net. Even this does not stop him as he suddenly stands up, drags the net (and several vermin who get entangled), grabs as many enemies as possible, and jumps into the bottomless pool in the catacombs. This move results in the drowning death of both him and the vermin, and Brocktree later drops a flagon of red wine into the water in honour of his father's heroic sacrifice.
