Songbreeze - better known as Song - is a young and pretty resident of Mossflower who lives here with her family until they move to Redwall after encountering some Marlfoxes in the forest. She is the granddaughter of Gawjo and Ellayo, daughter of Janglur and Rimrose, and known for her beautiful singing voice. After relocating to the Abbey she befriends Dann and Dippler, with the trio being on guard duty in Great Hall when Ascrod and Vannan suddenly appear. The two vermin kill Nutwing, knock the three pals out, and steal Martin's tapestry. She later learns of Dann's dream where Martin mentions her, the squirrel, and Dippler as three of the four Chieftains destined to travel to Marlfox Island and recover the tapestry. With Dann taking the famous sword and she wielding a stick she calls Leafwood (she had previously found this in a Gatehouse cupboard), the two squirrels and Dippler head off. Not far into their journey they meet Burble, and she works with Dann to rescue the vole and Dippler when they are captured by Raventail's band. Some time later she becomes separated from the other three when she spots Megraw in a river, bravely diving in to rescue him before they go over a waterfall. While they are saved by a cormorant he does not allow them to stay because his mate dislikes newcomers, so they head off and later meet Torrab. Here she is reunited with her grandfather Gawjo who has been caring for Torrab and her orphaned siblings, and after meeting back up with her three friends they all eventually arrive at Marlfox Island where she participates in the final battle. After Mokkan is killed and the slaves freed, she takes the recovered tapestry back to Redwall (giving Burble the Leafwood before returning home) where she is named Abbess by her friend Cregga. She rules for many seasons and, in her old age, starts to have problems with her eyesight; she keeps Perigord's monocle in her habit sleeve so she can secretly use it when nobeast is looking. Although she does not name a successor she writes a poem and stuffs it inside a wooden squirrel Janglur carves so Cregga can find it, as it will help her choose the next Abbess.
