Slitfang - so named because he has a gap in between his teeth - is a thin member of Plugg's crew who wields a cutlass and dagger. Along with Grubbage and Tazzin he is part of the fox Captain's inner circle. After the crew arrives in Mossflower he leads a scouting mission that results in the capture of the three Salamandastron runaways, losing a fang in the process. He later saves Plugg's life by threatening Kurda with the fox's battleaxe, and refuses to continue the search for the escaped trio until his leader has recovered from a severe wound. He participates in the attack on Redwall, is badly burned on his back by a cauldron of boiling hot oatmeal dumped on him by the Abbey inhabitants, and overhears Kurda talking with her Ratguard soldiers about taking over the crew and using them as bait after Plugg is killed by the three Brockhall adders. He challenges the Princess and is backed by his fellow corsairs, with the two getting into a brief argument. Kurda feigns a surrender and holds out her paw so he can shake it, but when he returns the favour and very briefly lets down his guard she swiftly chops off both his paw and head with her sabre. It should be noted that Slitfang had at least two opportunities to take over the Freebooters but doesn't as he is extremely loyal to Plugg.
