Sarengo is the King of Riftgard Fortress who wields a mace and chain, and wears a studded pawring. He is the father of Agarnu, grandfather of Bladd and Kurda, and allows his son to beat to cruelly beat Mokug (who acts as the King's personal servant due to his golden fur) with the ring. Along with Agarnu, Mokug, and some Ratguard soldiers he sails off to Mossflower as he plans to attack Redwall, however he changes his mind and decides to strike Brockhall first because he believes it possesses more treasure as well as the Abbey not appearing on the map he is using. Upon discovering the four resident adders he runs back outside but immediately searches for another entrance, writing down these directions when he locates it. He has Agarnu take half the vermin to the back while he leads the other half through the front, but Berussca is right there waiting and knocks his weapon to the side. A terrified Agarnu flees with the Ratguard soldiers, and Sarengo is forced to fight alone. While he manages to kill the adder by biting her in the spine, she strikes him with her venomous fangs. As he dies, he gives Mokug the directions and Zassaliss takes the King's crown for himself. His remains are accidentally discovered by Ruggum innumerable seasons later, wrapped in a death grip with Berussca.
