Saltar is a resident of Terramort and Captain of Darkqueen. He wields a cutlass and hook, and is the brother of Bludrigg. After his crew attacks Periwinkle he heads below deck with a few corsairs where they discover a hiding Mariel; he viciously beats her and tosses some of her friends overboard. Upon hearing of Bludrigg's death at the claws of Gabool he sails back to Terramort, for although he does not really love his brother he vows revenge because blood must be repaid with blood. His attack on Bladegirt fails as Gabool anticipates it, and he challenges the King in front of others. He insults his opponent, mentioning that he was defeated by a little mousemaid, but although he is an experienced fighter Saltar is killed by a trap Gabool has hidden behind a curtain.
