Salixa - derived from Salix, the genus of all willow trees - is a young resident of an unknown place and wields a sling. She is the adopted daughter of the Tabura (who rescues her from the vermin keeping her prisoner), wife of Gorath, and mother of Rowanbloom. After being saved the Tabura realizes she is nameless and calls her Salixa, which he says is an ancient name for willows and she is slender like them. She is a skilled healer, possesses a lovely singing voice, and writes her family's story. She helps Gorath in fighting Vizka's crew and the Brownrats tribe, with the two young badgers eventually falling in love. After Vizka's death she joins him on the trip to Salamandastron where they wed and become parents to Rowanbloom. Once their daughter is old enough, they allow her to come along on their annual trip to Redwall.
