Runa is a resident of Holt Mossguard who lives with them in Mossflower, where the River Moss and woodlands meet. She is the daughter of Alem, widow of Corriam, sister-in-law of the High Queen Rhulain Wildlough, ancestor of Banjon and Tiria, and presumed ancestor of Whulky. After finding a severely wounded Corriam on a beach she nurses him back to health despite her father's disapproval, and she learns of the High Queen's cruel fate. The two end up falling in love and move to Redwall where they become parents and grandparents, and she gives the famous lance as well as the coronet to her good friend Geminya after Corriam's death. At one point she tells the mouse about her past, which is written into the book Tales of Ancient Life. As Corriam mentions that Urthwyte is the Lord of Salamandastron, it is presumed that Runa is alive not long after the events of Salamandastron.
