Ruffgar - better known as Ruff - is a fully-grown resident of Mossflower who wields a javelin. He meets Brocktree and Dotti after the former thinks he is a vermin and attacks, quickly forgiving the badger and joining them on their trip to Salamandastron. He is a skilled cook and advises Dotti in her duels against Bucko. While Brocktree is fighting Trunn, Doomeye and Ripfang climb to Salamandastron's top as they have been ordered to kill the badger if anything goes wrong during the duel. Ruff spots Doomeye releasing the arrow that misses Brocktree's head, throwing his javelin with immense strength and slaying the corsair before he can fire off another arrow. After Trunn's death he joins Brog on the journey back to the Southern Coast.
