Roof, The

This area of Redwall features spires, crenelations, and turrets that can only be seen by birds, and is not greatly explored by the inhabitants since they cannot always reach it. Four stone bird statues are located at the cardinal points, with each bird facing the direction in which their respective species travel each season. They are mentioned in a riddle that the Redwallers solve to help Matthias's group on the search for the kidnapped youngsters. The weathervane can also be found here on the south gable, with Rufe placing Martin's sword on the north pointer until it falls near Samkim during a wicked storm.
