Romsca is a resident of Sampetra and Captain of Waveworm who wields a cutlass. She initially act as the ship's first mate but takes over after Conva's death, and is ordered by Ublaz to take Lask's group across the seas to Mossflower so they can steal the Tears of all Oceans. When the lizard General reveals that he has captured Durral and Viola she warns him the inhabitants will seek revenge, but he ignores her warning until he witnesses Martin's wrath. The two prisoners are brought aboard her ship where she protects them against the monitors, even killing one when he gets too close to Viola. She and Last despise each other, and their constant quarrelling eventually boils over when her crew and his band engage in a vicious battle that sees all the vermin perish. Despite slaying the General she suffers a fatal spinal injury when he rips open her back with his claws, and Durral emerges from his hiding spot to discover her laying on the deck. He carefully tends to her, ensuring she is comfortable, and she reveals that she wishes she had been a good creature like him. As they are too far away to turn around, she tells him how to get to Sampetra and to find her friends once there as they will help him. A grieving Durral calls her his child and she says she likes that before passing away in his arms, and in the epilogue Craklyn mentions the old Abbot often dreams of her. Romsca - considered to be a "grey character" - is one of the most popular and well-written characters in the series.
