Rollo - the name of a Normandy viking ruler - is a rascally Dibbun of Redwall during the time of Matthias who lives here with his parents Mr. Bankvole (presumed father) and Lettie, and older sister Cynthia. He becomes an orphan after his mother is killed by Slagar's gang, and is cared for by Cornflower and Mrs. Fieldmouse as Cynthia has been kidnapped by the masked fox. Along with his two caregivers he is temporarily captured by Ironbeak's flock but the trio are rescued, and despite his mischievousness he plays a valuable role in solving Germaine's riddles by locating the Foundation Stone as well as the Abbess's statue and the book she holds in her lap. Thanks to the puzzle being figured out, the Redwallers discover four bird statues on the Roof with writing inscribed on them. In his youth he assists in the Cellar, and in adulthood he becomes Abbey Recorder. By the time he wears spectacles and is considered to be quite intelligent, and participates in the search for the Tears of all Oceans. After Piknim is killed by jackdaws at Saint Ninian's Church he demands that Skipper burn the the ancient building to the ground, stating that evil warlords such as Cluny and Slagar have used it as their place of refuge.
