Rinkul is a spear-wielding soldier in the Rapscallions army who, along with some others, leaves on a scouting mission prior to Gormad's death. At one point his group runs into the Long Patrol and manages to kill Russa despite the hares defeating them, stealing her stick in the process and being the only one to survive. After wandering around for a while he spots Redwall and notices the sinking south wall, running off to tell his leader about his findings but unaware that he is actually deceased. He is found by Gaduss and some scouts who take him to Damug, and he is back at the camp when a disguised Midge and Tammo infiltrate the place. He and the latter recognize each other, and though he is suspicious of them nobeast listens to him. Upon realizing that the two hares are attempting to escape he pursues them, fatally spearing Rockjaw who sacrifices himself so his friends can safely flee. Russa's murder is then avenged by Tammo when he kills Rinkul with a spear, and a dying Rockjaw snatches up the stick from the ferret's dead paws and gives it to Tammo.
