Riftun is the spear-wielding Captain of the Ratguard who serve the Pure Ferrets at Riftgard. He is extremely cruel towards the woodlander slaves and considered to be the highest-ranking soldier because he knows about Sarengo's crown and pawring, and how Kurda needs them to rule the fortress. He joins her and Bladd in the pursuit of the three escaped slaves (Shogg, Triss, and Welfo respectively) so that the siblings don't "kill each other" and is instantly disliked by Plugg's crew, particularly Tazzin who mentions she would like to slay him. While on Seascab's top deck with Kurda one night during a wicked storm they spot the runaways' ship approaching, and he raises his spear in preparation of killing Shogg. Just as he is about to throw it a bolt of lightning strikes the metal tip, and he dies instantly. He is the only known character in the series to perish from electrocution, and he is succeeded by Vorto.
