Rawnblade is the large Lord of Salamandastron who expertly wields a huge broadsword he calls "Verminfate". He is the descendant of Sable Brock, great-grandson of Sunflash, great-great-grandson of Barkstripe and Bella, great-great-great-grandson of Boar, great-great-great-great-grandson of Brocktree, and great-great-great-great-great-grandson of Stonepaw. He often suffers from the Bloodwrath, has a fiery temper, holds the title "Protector of the Shores" and is the sworn enemy of all corsairs. After discovering three Long Patrol hares slaughtered on the shores he hunts down those responsible, killing Waveblade's entire crew and commandeering the ship. Some time later he joins Mariel's group on the trip to Terramort where he participates in the final battle, heading into Bladegirt and pursuing Gabool. The insane King tricks him into entering Skrabblag's pit, however just as Rawnblade is being attacked by the gigantic scorpion Martin's spirit enters his body and galvanizes him into picking up Skrabblag and throwing him onto Gabool. He climbs out of the pit just in time to see Skrabblag, enraged over his cruel captivity, fatally stab the corsair King numerous times with his stinger. Afterwards he reads the mysterious inscriptions on the Joseph Bell, as these can only be deciphered by a badger, and while the Bell is actually meant for him he offers to give it to Redwall as thanks to Martin for saving his life. He reveals the inscriptions meaning: the Bell knew what its name would be and that it would be taken to the Abbey. Rawnblade is presumably succeeded by Urthstripe, and innumerable seasons later his spirit appears alongside other deceased warriors in a baby Russano's dream.
