Raventail - so named because of the raven feather braided into his tail - is the leader of a ferret band consisting of about twenty members. He wields a curved sword (cutlass or scimitar), is extremely barbaric, and originally lives west of Redwall where his gang has a nasty habit of capturing and torturing innocent travelers by forcefully dunking them in water. When they meet the Four Chieftains they kidnap Burble and Dippler, but Dann and Song later attack them and he viciously beaten by the Bloodwrath-afflicted former who nearly kills him until the latter intervenes. As with most leaders Raventail is very superstitious and tricked into believing Marlfoxes possess magical abilities thanks to some clever tricks put on by Ascrod, Predak, and Vannan. He agrees to help them in their fight against Redwall and gathers over one hundred reinforcements, thus earning him much respect but also causing him and Ascrod to constantly bicker. His first attempt to burn down the Abbey's main gates fails and is berated by the Marlfoxes (particularly Ascrod) for his mistake, and is present when they start to cut down a tree that will hopefully crush the wall. Unbeknownst to the vermin the tree is home to many bees and termites, and Raventail's head is stung so many times he is barely recognizable for a while. During the final battle he is dueling with Florian at the main gates when the hare suddenly knocks on the door, and a terrified Raventail is grabbed by Cregga's huge paw and pulled inside where she kills him.
