Rangval is a rascally resident of Mossflower who lives in "Rogue's Retreat", a small cavern hollowed out by a river, and expertly wields four daggers. He is the adoptive uncle of Rowanbloom, incredibly resourceful, a loyal friend, and owns a place he calls Owch Mansions - two weeping willows home to four wasp nests, a a dead wych elm tree by the riverbank with a hornet nest inside. They live here because of the rotting fruit he puts on the ground, and he is able to walk through the area without getting stung. He meets Maudie when he drops into the GUOSIM logboat she is traveling in to get away from the pursuing Brownrats. He saves the group by leading the vermin into Owch Mansions where they are stung by the angry insects. After participating in the Battle of the Plateau he follows Gorath to his final duel against Vizka, and later named the unofficial Scout in Charge of the Long Patrol.
