Rake is a resident of Salamandastron and Captain in the Long Patrol who expertly wields two claymores. He has scars all over his face, possesses a thick northern accent as he is originally from the High North Coast, and his surname is derived from the fact that he has black fur. As he is of the highest rank, he leads a score of hares in the trip to forge an alliance with the Rogue Crew Sea Otters in hopes of finally defeating Razzid. During the Battle of Redwall he works with Skor to kill both Jiboree and Mowlag, and afterwards he boards Posy Gurdy (a renamed and commandeered Greenshroud) to hunt down any surviving members of Razzid's crew.
