Ragear is a fat and awkward soldier in Cluny's horde who wields a dagger. Along with Mangefur he is sent out by the Scourge upon their arrival in Mossflower to find food, however they are only able to locate dead sparrows and grass and are beaten by an angry Cluny as a result. Some time later he joins the warlord and Shadow on the trip to Redwall to steal Martin's tapestry, proud of being chosen to participate but unaware that he will be used as a distraction if necessary. He ends up being left behind in the ensuing escape and wanders around lost in Mossflower. The following day he wakes up to spot Matthias traveling towards Saint Ninian's Church and plans on capturing him in hopes of gaining popularity with Cluny, though he fails miserably and is tied to an oak tree by the young mouse after being knocked unconscious. Upon awakening he chews through his ropes but has no time to plan his next time as he is fatally bitten by a stalking Asmodeus (making him the first known creature to be slain by the adder). His body is later found by Cheesethief and Killconey.
