This large pit near Mossflower is where the sandstone used to built Redwall (and presumably Kotir) is mined. It sits atop an adders' den and features many tunnels that have been smoothed by innumerable seasons of snakes sliding through them. Perhaps its most famous resident is Asmodeus who lives here during the Late Rose Summer Wars until he is killed by Matthias with Martin's sword, and his descendant Baliss is born here. At one point the area is used by Armuk Rinn as his hideout.
