Pond, The

This large pond on Redwall's grounds is actually what remains of the lake used by the CORIM to flood Kotir. In the time before the Abbey's construction, the River Moss veers differently than it does when Redwall is built as it possibly goes through the valley where Kotir and Redwall are in and forms a lake. Due to unknown reasons the river later changes course and no longer feeds the lake, thus it eventually dries up. Kotir's original constructors use the valley to build the castle, and at some point after Verdauga moves in the drainage from the dried-up lake is made into Gloomer's home. Towards the end of Tsarmina's rule the CORIM purposely scuttle Wuddship in the River Moss so they can remake the lake flood Kotir, later resurfacing the ship and allowing the river to flow once again. As the flood tunnels no longer spill water into Kotir's underground ruins, the lake the CORIM rebuilt dries up into a swamp with a spring-fed pond in its middle. During Redwall's construction the area is hit by a drought and the swamp eventually disappears leaving only the pond behind; the Abbey is then built around this body of water. It is enjoyed by many creatures as a place to relax and swim.
