Phredd is the ancient Abbot of Redwall who serves for many seasons. He wears eyeglasses, enjoys being old, often has conversations with various objects, and after his retirement he becomes Gatekeeper. He is interested in searching for Loamhedge's ruins and at one point he discovers Tim's writings that detail the terrifying account of his and others capture by Slagar. When Carrul steps down the two become joint Gatekeepers until Phredd passes away from presumably old age. Along with Humble he is the only known male hedgehog to be Abbot.
