Perigord - the name of a former French province - is a brave resident of Salamandastron and Major in the Long Patrol who expertly wields a sabre with his left paw ("sinistra" is Italian for "left hand"). He is the brother of Twayblade, wears a monocle and valued green tunic, and serves under Cornspurrey in his young seasons; during this time he has a crush on Mem. He is asked by Cregga to find Damug but ends up keeping his group at Redwall due to the sinking south wall, and later participates in the Battle of the Ridge of a Thousand where he acts as head strategist. Over halfway through the gruesome fight he is captured by Damug and almost executed for yelling insults at him, however Cregga arrives with the rest of the hares and ensure the woodlanders are victorious. At one point he gives her his monocle, and the badger passes it down to Song. In The Taggerung Fwirl locates it in an ash tree near the Pond.
