Pandion - the name of the osprey genus - is a fearsome resident of Green Isle and becomes trapped in Felis's net, with the wildcat also wounding his beak with an iron barb. After Jeefra and Pitru are too scared to fight, an angry Felis attempts to attack Pandion but he launches himself at the warlord, digging his wicked talons deep into his face before lifting him up into the air. Felis falls to the earth below and the bird flies off, managing to make it all the way to Mossflower where he is captured by Groffgut's gang. He is saved by Tiria's group (the ottermaid vows to kill whomever put the barb in his beak) and brought to Redwall where he meets Brantalis, and they almost instantly dislike each other. He heals well enough to join Tiria on the trip to Green Isle where he aids in rescuing a captured Leatho and also tells the clans about their Queen's arrival. During the final battle he and Brantalis (who has flown to the island to deliver the High Queen Rhulain's coronet to Tiria) put aside their differences and work together to save Leatho from the burning fortress but is spotted by Felis who throws his war-axe at him, slaying him instantly. His murder is avenged seconds later by Tiria when she hurls the iron barb straight at Felis's face, and it embeds itself into his brain. Pandion is later buried with the other slain otters in the middle of the lake. Along with Megraw, he is the only osprey to appear in the series.
