Orlando is the large Lord of the Western Plains where he lives with his wife Brockrose and daughter Auma. After the former passes away he is left to care for the latter but suffers another terrible loss when she is kidnapped by Slagar. Wielding his huge double-bladed battle-axe he vows to find his little one and kill the masked fox. At one point he meets up with Matthias's group and quickly realizes they are all searching for their missing youngsters, playing a big role in not only getting to the Kingdom of Malkariss but also battling the Blackrobe Rats. He sometimes suffers from the Bloodwrath, kills the Wearet, helps Matthias to destroy the limestone statue, and joins the mouse Warrior in pursuing Slagar until the fox falls down Loamhedge's ancient well. He joins Auma and the others on the trip to Redwall where he stays for many seasons, becoming quite close with Constance who helps him to raise Auma into adulthood. He later leaves for Salamandastron and becomes Badger Lord, and while in Pearls of Lutra Rollo mentions he does not know if he is still alive it is quite possible given badger's immense lifespans.
