Muta - derived from the word "mute" - is an old but strong resident of Southsward where she lives with Gael's family inside Floret. She is so named because while she sometimes makes noises or grunts, she is totally mute for unknown reasons. She is the guardian of Truffen and fiercely protects him, as shown when she tries to save him from Nagru's horde while the squirrels are escaping. She remains behind to help Rab as rearguard, however the two are severely wounded by Silvamord and head into the tunnels underneath Floret where they are cared for by Egbert. While he heals their injuries he cannot heal their damaged minds and they become afflicted by the dreaded Bloodwrath, and later participate in the Battle of Southsward. After Nagru's death she is reunited with Truffen and no longer suffers from the Bloodwrath.
