Mellus - derived from melus, the Latin word for badger - is the older Badger Mother of Redwall who cares a lot for the Dibbuns. She participates in defending her home against Greypatch's crew and helps Flagg to rescue a severely wounded Rosie. When Slipp attempts to attack Furrtil and Mousebabe after realizing that the "treasure" they had been talking about is actually toys, she charges at the corsair and is fatally stabbed in the heart with the knife he is holding in his claws. She is later buried on the Abbey grounds and succeeded by Mara many seasons later.
