Mad Maudie (The Honorable) Mugsberry Thropple, Colonel
Gender: female
Species: hare
Appears In: Eulalia!
Maudie - also known as "Mad Maudie" due to her sometimes fiery temper - is a young and intelligent resident of Salamandastron who acts as an assistant cook. Her father Thropple teaches her how to box, and she becomes so skilled at it that she earns the title of Regimental Champion of the Long Patrol for at least six seasons. After punching another hare in the eye following some chaos in the Kitchen, she is briefly banished by Asheye and sent out on a quest to find his successor; as she believes she might find out some information at Redwall, she decides to head there. After befriending Bungwen she continues on her journey but is captured by some lizards who had attempted to attack the old mole, tying her to a tree and threatening to kill her. She is rescued by the timely arrival of Asio, and the owl joins her on the trip as he believes she possesses magical abilities. They head to Bulrush Bower where they meet the GUOSIM, however Asio is killed fighting an adder to save a shrewbabe. While traveling to Redwall the group encounter the Brownrats tribe and they are forced to flee, receiving assistance from Barbowla's tribe and Rangval. She saves two infants and uses a snake to fend off the vermin, but Luglug is killed by Stringle just before they arrive at the Abbey gates. Upon hearing that the haremaid is searching for a badger, Orkwil takes her to the Infirmary where she meets Gorath and realizes that he is the badger that Asheye had previously described. She vows to bring him to Salamandastron and tries to stop him from getting injured more or even killed when he becomes afflicted by the Bloodwrath and charges towards the Sea Raiders. Along with Orkwil and Rangval she is captured by the corsairs but the trio escape and dress up as vermin in order to infiltrate the camp and safely locate Gorath. After participating in the Battle of the Plateau and Vizka's death, she sails to Salamandastron with the badger where she is later promoted to regimental Colonel Cook and Caterer.
