Marjoram - a herb using in cooking - is the Abbess of Redwall and good friends with Oakheart (she calls him "Oakie" and he calls her "Marjy"), Brang, Ruark, and Soogum. She is in her middle seasons and is not afraid to hand out punishments, as seen when she orders Divvery to perform some cleaning chores after the young GUOSIM member causes some guards to miss their posts on the walltop. Along with several others she captures Globby and makes him clean up his mess in the Kitchen, but he escapes to the Dormitories roughly around the same time as Guffy and Tassy vanish. She attempts to persuade the young stoat to leave his hiding place and promises she only wishes to speak to him since she thinks he might hold information as to the Dibbuns' whereabouts, but he refuses and in an ensuing scuffle both he and Tollum are slain; he manages to mention "Sable Quean" and "Althier" before dying in her arms. Not long after she meets Buckler and Diggs who have arrived with two new tolling ropes for the twin bells, and she does her best to support him when he agrees to help search for the missing youngsters. She later does something not many creatures have the ability to do when she confronts a Bloodwrath-afflicted Axtel and succeeds in getting him to leave the fight so his injured footpaw can be tended to. During the final battle she is in Great Hall with four other maids when Zwilt appears but rescued by the timely arrival of Buckler, and after the Ravagers are finally defeated she writes a letter to Brang thanking him for sending Buckler and the ropes to her.
