Magger is a spear-wielding crew member aboard Bludgullet and promoted to second-in-command after Codj's death. When Vizka takes twoscore of the corsairs to start tunnelling into Redwall, he stays back at the camp with the rest of the group but the plan goes horribly wrong when Vizka's band is attacked by the Brownrats. He attempts to flee but is captured by the tribe and forced by Stringle to tell Gruntan that he slew the fox Captain (who is actually alive), and the vermin run away when Gorath intervenes. He escapes during the chaos and kills the Grumpy Watervole by throwing a large boulder onto him, then steals Martin's sword from the dead beast and boldly walks into the corsairs' camp. He is totally shocked to see Vizka there and is decapitated by the angry fox, who claims he is a cowardly deserter.
