Lutra - derived from Lutra lutra, the name for the Eurasian otter - is the Skipper of Holt Rudderwake who wields a sabre and lives in a cave near the sea. He is the father of Grath, father-in-law of Inbar, and keeper of the Tears of all Oceans. His tribe is viciously attacked by Conva's crew who have arrived seeking the precious pearls, and all but Grath are slaughtered. Two seasons after this horrific murder a fully-recovered Grath covers the holt's entrance with bankmud that eventually dries in the sun, thus her family is eternally sealed inside a tomb. Their murders are avenged by her.
