Lonna Bowstripe, Lord

Gender: male

Species: badger

Appears In: Loamhedge

Lonna is a gigantic resident of the Eastern Coast who lives here with his adoptive father Grawn. The elder teaches him how to expertly wield a bow as well as harness his Seer powers, and Grawn claims that this is why he is so skilled with an arrow. He sometimes suffers from the Bloodwrath and can also contact other creatures in their dreams, as shown when he appears in Bol's nightmare. While heading to Salamandastron he and Grawn are viciously attacked by the corsairs who murder the old badger and severely wound him. He is nursed back to health by Shoredog's holt but left with a large facial scar from Bol, and vows to kill the entire crew. He then spends several seasons pursuing Bol, picking off random vermin and surviving an assassination attempt by Wirga's three sons with help from Figalok. He meets Bragoon's group during their trip to Loamhedge's ancient ruins, receives a vision from Martin who tells him where to travel to, and eventually ends up at Redwall where he stays outside and kills any rat poking their head above the walltop. He eventually fulfills his promise when he grabs Bol and uses him like a club, though he doesn't actually slay him as the rat Captain is accidentally killed by spears thrown by his own crew as they are trying to get Lonna. Any survivors try to flee but are tracked down by the badger, and he travels to Salamandastron where he becomes Badger Lord. The book is dedicated to an avid fan named Nolan Wallace, with Lonna being an anagram of Nolan, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2001.
