This rat army is led by Stonefleck (the only named member) and mainly use bows, though they also wield daggers. They have grey-and-black fur that serves as a natural camouflage, and are famous for their ability to sneak around without the slightest detection. They possess an extensive knowledge of the Great South Plateau's geography which lets them lead any slavers across the treacherous land to the Kingdom of Malkariss, and they do just this with Slagar's young prisoners. The rats also use a ferry to cross the river as the waters are home to flesh-eating fish. When Matthias's group appears the rats hold them off with arrows, following the band when they head downstream aboard a raft. The vermin are unable to stop them as Cheek saves his friends by eating the fish and they escape, but the rats quickly attack them on land. They are defeated by the timely arrival of Warbeak's tribe, and any survivors flee after Stonefleck is killed by Log a Log.
