This stick with a small green stone on its end is found by Song in a cupboard in the Gatehouse, and she brings it with her on the trip to Marlfox Island to retrieve Martin's stolen tapestry. When she and her two pals (Dann and Dippler respectively) meet Burble he tells her that the stick - which also doubles as a weapon when necessary - is vital to the Riverhead tribe as whomever holds it is the leader. She offers it to the Gray One in exchange for Swallow but as he is secretly planning to steal it she and the other three sneak off aboard the little ship during the night. She continues to wield it throughout the journey and, upon returning home, gives it to Burble who becomes the tribe's new Chieftain.
