Kurda, Princess
Gender: female
Species: pure ferret
Appears In: Triss
Kurda is the vicious Princess of Riftgard who lives here with her family and speaks with a German-like accent. She is the granddaughter of Sarengo, daughter of Agarnu, and younger sister of Bladd. She is evil, merciless, expertly wields a sabre, and dreams of ruling the fortress. As she is white from nose to tail and has pink eyes, she is most likely albino. She often forces slaves (particularly Drufo and Triss) to throw turnips into the air so she can practice her sword skills, unaware that they secretly clean up the mess afterwards and toss any leftovers to their fellow slaves. When Shogg, Triss, and Welfo escape after being thrown into a half-submerged punishment cage she gives chase but is briefly stopped by Drufo who bravely guards the jetty. She runs him through with her sabre which causes Triss, who witnesses the brutal murder, to swear revenge. The Princess leads a group of Ratguard soldiers in the pursuit as she wants to personally kill all three runaways, and she ends up sailing aboard Seascab alongside Plugg. The two leaders instantly hate each other and often argue, resulting in Plugg secretly vowing to slay her when he gets the chance. Upon arriving in Mossflower she pursues the pair (it is now Shogg and Triss as Welfo stays on Peace Island) but never succeeds in catching them, and they make it to Redwall. She launches an attack from both sides but since she is a coward she leads her group from the back, then hides when she realizes they are losing. An enraged Plugg calls her out and they duel, but the three Brockhall adders suddenly appear and snatch Plugg in their jaws. During the chaos she spots Zassaliss wearing her late grandfather's crown, one of two items she needs to succeed Agarnu as ruler of Riftgard, so after murdering the newly-appointed Freebooters leader Slitfang she forces the corsairs to enter Brockhall and steal the crown. Simultaneously a group of Redwallers led by Shogg and Triss are investigating the ancient place and a battle ensues. Kurda manages to grab the crown from a slain Zassaliss and runs off only to be spotted and chased by Triss, who challenges her to single combat. As she has never faced an armed creature before, the Princess struggles to fight and ends up with a broken sabre when Triss snaps it in half with Martin's sword. As Kurda turns to flee she trips and accidentally kills herself when she falls onto the blade she is still holding in her paws. A visibly upset Triss claims she has been cheated but Groo and Sagax remind the squirrelmaid that slaying an unarmed beast is not something she would do anyways, and that Kurda died a coward.
