Kotir
Appears In: Mossflower and The Long Patrol
Mentioned In: The Sable Quean
This old castle located over a lake in Mossflower is constructed from the same red sandstone found in the Quarry as Redwall, and features a cellar larger than Great Hall. It is abandoned for many seasons until Verdauga finds and names it, and after he is secretly killed by Tsarmina she becomes Queen and rules with an iron fist. Upon realizing that the lake also acts as Gloomer's home, the CORIM try to re-route a river in hopes of flooding the place but the water runs so slowly that the flooding will take seasons even though Kotir's foundation is starting to deteriorate. The woodlanders then purposely scuttle Wuddship in order to dam the River Moss, thus the flow of water intensifies and half of Kotir is eventually flooded. In the final battle a ballista is used to destroy the remaining part of the castle, and only the lake is left; this becomes a pond and Redwall is built over top. In The Long Patrol the Abbey's south wall (which is constructed over Kotir's northwest walltower) collapses, and some Redwallers journey into the ancient castle where they find a treasure hidden by Verdauga innumerable seasons before. Kotir has not appeared since.
