Kharanjul is the gigantic and very sinewy leader of a small vermin army who live in a cave on the side of the Abyss. He is the descendant of the Wearet (possible cross between a ferret, stoat, and/or weasel), wields a trident, has almost no neck, no visible ears, and kills any who crosses the fallen Lord of Mossflower that acts as a bridge across the gorge. His many titles include "Master of Life and Death" and "Lord of the Abyss". His army attacks the five Redwallers while they are starting their trip back home, and a mortally wounded Bragoon and Saro push the tree into the gorge sending Kharanjul and his soldiers to their deaths.
