Keyla is a young slave at Marshank and originally from an unknown place. He is cheerful, has a deep voice, despises Badrang, wields a javelin and sling, and works with Grumm and Rose to rescue the three inside the Prison Pit (Brome, Felldoh, and Martin respectively) by singing digging instructions to them. When interrogated by two of Badrang's soldiers he claims he is chanting about a mysterious illness and has Brome scream for help, causing the vermin to plug their ears; Brome then shouts an important message to his sister. Along with Barkjon and Hillgorse he acts as a ringleader during the brewing rebellion, and during the "performance" put on by the Rambling Rosehip Players he sacrifices his own freedom to ensure that younger and older slaves are rescued. Some time later he works with Brome to free the remaining prisoners, digging them all out of a collapsed tunnel in the process. He is one of the few to witness Felldoh's murder at the paws of Badrang's army, and along with Tullgrew leads the slingthrowers during the Battle of Marshank. After Badrang is defeated he moves to Noonvale.
