This group of birds - consisting of crows, magies, and rooks - is led by Ironbeak and reside in the Northlands. They flee south to escape their cold home and thanks to Quickbill discovering Redwall, Ironbeak becomes obsessed with conquering it despite Mangiz warning him and mentioning an armoured mouse clouding his visions. Their first move is infiltrating Warbeak Loft, killing the old and young who do not join Warbeak on the trip to deliver an important message to Matthias's band. After this they try numerous times to take over the entire place but always fail thanks to the Redwallers who continuously fight back, including Cornflower's plan to scare them away by dressing up as Martin's spirit. While she succeeds in lowering their morale, Ironbeak is furious and viciously beats any bird who speaks of it. They sneak up on the Redwallers one night and imprison them inside Cavern Hole but Stryk intervenes and kills Ironbeak. Any survivors are given their freedom but outfitted with a special collar that prohibits them from flying too high.
