Humble is the old Abbot of Redwall and cousin of Jem. He possesses an extensive knowledge on ales and cordials, and used to hold the title of Cellarkeeper. He becomes Abbot two seasons after Furtila's passing, though this takes much convincing from the others. Eventually he agrees but sleeps in his beloved Cellar every night and checks on the barrels every morning before heading upstairs and assuming his duties as Redwall's leader. He trains Burlop in the Cellarkeeper's responsibilities, views him as the son he never had, and presumably succeeded by Lycian. Along with Phredd, he is the only known male hedgehog to serve as Abbot.
