The Horse is the only member of its species to appear in the series, and responsible for pulling Cluny's cart. When Skullface is ordered to bite it to make it run faster, the creature becomes frightened when he lands on its back and suddenly jolts forward; as a result, the unlucky rat is crushed to death by the cart. The Horse later flees when the cart crashes. There is only one horse in the series because Mr. Jacques was not expecting his first novel, Redwall, to be published so he included animals such as dogs, pigs, and horses.
